About this event

Across Australia our dedicated fire fighters are stretched to the limit with the terrible bushfire season. They are working tirelessly to keep our homes, friends, family, wilderness and wildlife safe, often at a huge cost to themselves and their family.

The Firefighter Family Day on the Water initiative was created by Above and Beyond Boating to provide a way for the boating community to give back to the men and women who are battling blazes across our country.

Firefighters and their family can register to attend one of the events and enjoy a day out on the water with one of the volunteer skippers who are donating their boats for the experience.

We have Hub's organising events in New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia on March 15th 2020.

The lead up

The event Hub's will coordinate the timing and activities for each event. As the families and boats register we will pass their contact details onto the event hosts to coordinate the details and connect them with a suitable boat for the day.

The hosting venues, have a dedicated event organiser who is responsible for connecting the boats and families in the lead up to the event. We are encouraging the boat owners to get to know the families they will be taking out in weeks leading up to the event so that they can ask any questions they have and so to help make the actual day as enjoyable and relaxed as possible.

In order to simplify the logistics we are asking the boat boat owners if they could offer lunch to their guests and confirm any dietary requirements for their guest family directly with the family. In the event that this is not possible please just let the event organiser know, so they can plan accordingly.

On the day...

Guests and boat owners will arrive at the Hub location for activities and introductions. All the events are including welcome with a BBQ breakfast for all involved.

Boats will then head out for the day and depending on the forecast, the event organiser will suggest an anchorage to moor up and have some fun.

The end of the events, have no formal conclusion to allow flexibility in timing, we are suggesting the return to the venue would be around 3pm.

Entertain families in enjoy some of the best boating locations in Australia!

Vessel Types

We are looking for vessels over 30ft in length that have functioning toilet facilities, and preferably an enclosed cabin for weather protection.
